Remember the John Birch Society? Do you remember the people in Northern Kentucky who have been involved with them over the years? Do you see where those people are now and who they support for elective office? Wasn't there a day when being associated with the John Birch Society meant you were a dangerous extremist?
Well in today's world the John Birch Society and its themes have gone mainstream, sort of. It is at the core of the Ron Paul/TEA party movement.
As further evidence of this theory of mine, guess who got one of the very few 100% ratings from the John Birch Society. You guessed it.

There is a major problem with equating the Tea Party Movement with the Birch Society. They often have profound and irreconcilable differences. And, in fact, the JBS scorecard of the voting behavior of all members of Congress reveals that many Tea Party favorites are scored very low.
The ultimate problem is lowest-common-denominator reasoning. One can always find similar ideas or positions between two individuals or groups but one has to recognize the importance of all the significant differences before claiming that one is equivalent of the other.
