It is inevitable in politics, once your stature begins to rise those who hate you, oppose you and want you to fail will increase their efforts. At this moment Rand Paul is in the bulls-eye. Story after story has appeared accusing our Junior Senator of plagiarism, using without attribution long quotes written by others as if his own.
But Rand is not letting this get him down. He has mocked his accusers telling them he would have to read all of the footnotes to his speeches if they expected a politician to comply with their view of how he should conduct himself.
In fact, in one response to criticism, Rand alluded to Kentucky's prohibition against dueling as if to say in some earlier time there were consequences to wrongful attacks on a man's character.
So far the media has been willing to let Rand ride the crest of his self created wave of public attention. Some in the media are doing so because they think he will never be taken seriously and can't admit that he truly does speak to the hearts of millions of Americans. They see him as no threat at all.
Others in the media like the fact that Rand is always willing to talk to them and espouse the "TEA party" view.
But others in the media are playing a longer game. They know that the more Rand talks, the larger their resources will be when the time comes to slam him over something they will probably take out of context and use the relentless drum beat that the mainstream media is so good at beating, to drive him into the shadows.
For those of us who like Rand we know what is coming. As Rand rises so do the haters and like the zombies in the movie "World War Z", they can turn very quickly with great vengeance and infect many others in a blink of the eye.
