Out of about $1 Billion of YOUR MONEY, taken from you by threat of force, and then spent by earmark for homeowner relief following hurricane Katrina, $700 million has gone missing. It looks like the government just handed out the cash and the homeowners took the money and ran.
Where did all the money go?
“Your guess is as good as mine,” David Montoya, the inspector general of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, says of $700 million in missing taxpayer money that Louisiana homeowners were given in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to elevate and protect their homes from future storms.
A new report released from the inspector general’s office shows that more than 24,000 homeowners who received grants of up to $30,000 to elevate their homes either misspent or pocketed the money. [Yahoo]
Of course there really is nobody watching the till, or so it seems. Tens of billions of dollars were lost to open theft and waste in Iraq, yet school children cannot visit the White House because a little tourism costs too much money.
The US gives billions to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt but can't find the money to build a bridge in over the river between Kentucky and Ohio which would not only improve interstate commerce but create a huge number of jobs and be a boost to the regional economy.
Grandma has to come up with more of her own money to buy medicine but the Obama clan can take lavish vacations one on top of the other.
And even if you think that the $174,000 salary being paid to our Senators and Congressmen might seem high, think how high it is by comparison to how much real work they do.
All this talk about cutting spending and cutting taxes has about as much effect as trying to mow the Kentucky Horse Park with a pair of nail clippers.
But hey, they work so hard for their money and get so much done who could possibly expect our elected officials to have time to keep tabs on BILLIONS of dollars taken from your paycheck, your bank account, your property, your savings, your inventory, your retirement account, your estate, your kid's future?
I mean, give them a break.
