POLITICO quotes Illinois Senator Dick Durbin as saying that Mitch McConnell is so focused on avoiding a primary in Kentucky that “If you listen closely, he is making a sharp right turn into the world of the tea party and Rand Paul’s libertarian politics.”
Durbin may just have surpassed Biden as the dumbest democrat in the country despite his Mel Torme voice.
First of all, as anybody in Kentucky will tell you, McConnell will not have to face a serious primary challenge. And quite frankly, if Alison Lundergan Grimes gets in the race, she will make a major mistake. McConnell won't have any problem at all hitting her just as hard as he'd hit a seasoned political veteran, which she is not.
Sure, his poll numbers aren't great, but no republican in Kentucky gets good poll numbers until they spend money to get them up. And let's face the facts. McConnell has an awful lot of people in this Commonwealth who got where they are because of him.
Has he satisfied the TEA party bunch enough by being nice to Rand and hiring Jesse sufficient to keep the wolves away from his door? Not all of them, just the ones with teeth.
The toothless yappers on short chains boasting about how weak he is haven't a clue what to expect from a full frontal McConnell assault and it is highly unlikely that they will find and run a top tier candidate in the primary.
All comers would do well to remember one of McConnell's signature lines: "If they throw a rock, we throw a boulder." He can raise and spend $30 million to keep the seat and nobody running as an "R" can come close to that.
So, Senator Durbin, we know that you think that foreigners can become president and that you get easily confused over your own words, but if you think Mitch McConnell is worried about a serious primary in Kentucky, then you don't know Kentucky.
Really, are all senators from Illinois that obtuse?
As soon as election is over, he will make sharp left turn and go back to being Ole Mitch. There should be a cap on the money one can spend on an election
