Why Not Heroin?

If you still think that Heroin use is limited to back alleys and jazz musicians, ask a cop.  Heroin use is way up among high school and post high school kids because it is cheaper than pills. So, with a growing market, tons to be made in profits and the opportunity to rake in some tax money, why not make it legal?

Just think about it.  Yes the people who import and sell the stuff often have questionable backgrounds, but the amount of tax they would have to pay on their huge profits would seem so small to them that the tremendous help it would provide to our failing economy in Kentucky might be worth it.

Yes heroin usually appeals to people who can't really afford it and yes it sucks money out of the marketplace that could be used to buy other goods that keep the economic engine running, but think of all the tax revenue that we are losing. People are going to buy it anyway, so why not make it legal and tax it?

And really, with the kind of taxes it would bring in we could easily pay lip service to afford an addiction treatment plan for those who just can't get enough.

I'm sure there are any number of industries in Kentucky, like horse racing, where the sales of heroin at their facilities would help their bottom line, and don't we all like those pretty horses?

Come on people, get with the times.  You heard the governor last night didn't you?  It's 2012.  Vice is nice.  Why stop at gambling?

Government Protection

The citizens of the city of Los Angeles will be asked to vote upon a proposed law requiring porn stars to wear condoms while filming.  This takes government protection to a whole new low.

Enjoy The Winter Solstice, It Might Just Be Your Last

Today we officially enter winter.  For the next six months the days grow longer in the Northern Hemisphere.  But a bit to our south something else begins today, the countdown to the end of the world.  According to people with too much time on their hands scientists, the Mayans have predicted this.

Mexican officials this week took time out of the holiday celebrations to proclaim the coming of the Apocalypse. Officials have started a countdown to the End of Times for December 21, 2012 — based on the Mayan calendar. At our blog, we try to keep people informed of such important dates for personal planning. Since it falls on a Friday, it may make for an awkward evening at TGIF and, if you have some vacation time, you might want to use it before December 22, 2012.

I am not sure what the Mayan apocalypse looks like but I am pretty sure that, as a legal matter, earned vacation and other benefits will be treated as void as a matter of force majeure.

I wonder if ANYBODY is going to survive?

 

Did Gary Moore Already Make Rookie Mistake?

Boone Judge Exec Gary Moore announced his candidacy for Congress yesterday and allowed the newspaper to use a terrible publicity shot of him.  Did he send out his press release without a print ready photo?  If so that's a rookie mistake. Just look how this cedes control over his image to the media.

I'd think he'd rather define himself before others define him. 

And so since Gary Moore never passes a mirror without looking in, maybe his next publicity shot will tell us how he sees himself.

The video posted by Cyrus edits Occupy Wall Street video clips over her song “Liberty Walk” from the CD “Can’t be Tamed” — available at Best Buy (NYSE-BBY) for $9.99.

Someone needs to take Miley aside and explain to her that the only reason she is relevant is because she made a shitload of Wall Street dough off the “Hannah Montana” franchise, a fictitious corporate nom de plume created for her by Disney (NYSE-DIS). Without The Mouse’s creation of Hannah Montana — movie available at Target (AMEX-TDTF) for $8.19 — Miley Cyrus would be covering “Achy Breaky Heart” in the lobby of the Hampton Inn (NYSE-HIL) in Ashland, Kentucky.

I have no particular animosity towards Miss Cyrus. Last week at her nineteenth birthday party she admitted to being a “stoner.” This was following an earlier video of her smoking “legal” pot from a glass bong. For those of us who went to college in the ’70s — a generation one toke away from being an entire graduating class of Lindsay Lohans — her smoking habit is almost endearing. [Daily Caller]

Palin Reconsidering?

Apparently not, but that didn't stop a recent round of "what ifs" from being discussed:

It’s wafer thin but lots of fun to game out, and I figure our resident Palinistas would appreciate having a new reason to believe after last month’s great disappointment. Here you go. The ballot deadlines have passed in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida, which means there are three possibilities. One: It’s not true. Two: It is true but she’s going to run third party, which means she doesn’t have to worry about primary deadlines. Three: It’s true and she’s going to run as a Republican, having been lured back into the race by the vacuum on the right after Perry’s collapse and Cain’s sudden vulnerability. What about NH, SC, and FL, though? Well, in theory she could run hard in Iowa, win there, and then immediately start campaigning in states with later primaries while Romney, Perry, and Cain duke it out over the rest of the early states. That would be awfully risky given the momentum that Romney would have if, as expected, he wins in New Hampshire and Florida, but the media would love the suspense of watching Palin defy the conventional playbook by skipping traditional early “must wins.” Imagine the drama if Romney steamrolled Perry and Cain and turned up on Super Tuesday with only Palin, the Iowa winner, left to stop him. Gut-check time for Republican voters: Would they opt grudgingly for Mitt on grounds that Palin might be unelectable or would they rally to Palin on “Anyone But Romney” grounds? [HotAir]

Somebody spent a lot of money researching what physical characteristics about a woman make it more likely that she will have more children.  The conclusion: more feminine facial characteristics means more children.
