Obama Gets Body Slammed For Misplaced Criticism Of Campaign Finance Ruling

Obama reads a teleprompter well, but who ever is writing that stuff for him should be fired.  He is getting the tar kicked out of him over his inappropriate, low class, condescending, ignorant, factually incorrect criticism of the Citizens United campaign finance decision announced last week by the US Supreme Court.

During the oral argument in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, Seth Waxman, the former Solicitor General of the United States who was representing John McCain and other campaign finance law sponsors, asserted that the plaintiffs' position was contrary to the thrust of more than 50 years of Supreme Court precedent. Justice Alito said that this argument -- or "sound bite," as he characterized it -- is "perplexing." He noted that the issue before the Court was merely the validity of two precedents that don't date back that far.

Justice Alito's concern turned out to be prescient when, in his State of the Union address, President Obama (Mr. Sound Bite, himself) claimed that the Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United "reversed a century of law to open the floodgates for special interests - including foreign corporations - to spend without limit in our elections." Even Waxman had not made this claim at oral argument, although Solicitor General Kagan and Justice Sotomayor threw the number 100 around in this connection.

Last night, Justice Alito reportedly responded to Obama's sound bite by quietly saying something like "that's not true." Alito was right at least two levels. First, as noted above and as Linda Greenhouse acknowledges, Citizens United did not disturb any principles that date back 100 years.

Second, as Shannen Coffin points out, the decision in Citizens United is quite clear that it does not address whether the government can regulate improper foreign influence over our electoral process. Writing for the majority, Justice Kennedy stated: "We need not reach the question whether the Government has a compelling interest in preventing foreign individuals or associations from influencing our Nation's political process." Presidents should feel free to criticize important Supreme Court decisions with which they disagree. It's bad form, however, to do so at an event where Justices are in attendance by invitation. And it is unconscionable to do so by blatantly misrepresenting what the Court has said.[Power Line]

Congratulations Ford Motor Company: $2.7 Billion Profit in 2009!

Ford told the government thanks, but no thanks to federal bailout money and the American people responded favorably to their independence.

Ford Motor Co. made $2.7 billion in 2009, its first annual profit in four years.

The automaker on Thursday also forecast a full-year profit in 2010. Earlier it had only promised to be "solidly profitable" in 2011.

The profit surprised Wall Street, where analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected an annual loss of 31 cents.

In the fourth quarter, Ford earned $868 million, or 25 cents per share, compared with a loss of $5.9 billion a year earlier. Ford earned money in three of the four quarters last year. [MyWayNews]

Obama Has The SIDAM Touch, Cats Lose To South Carolina

No doubt you've heard of "The Midas Touch" possessed by people whose touch turns everything to gold. Obama seems to have the Sidam touch, or just the opposite.  Those with the Sidam touch are cursed. Every thing they touch breaks or turns to ruin.

Take for example the undefeated UK Wildcats who headed out on the road looking for win number 20 over the South Carolina Gamecocks.  Only this time, before they left they got a very special phone call.  It was from Barack Obama who said to the team "There is that tendency once you get to number one to let down a little bit."

Top-ranked Kentucky found out it's got some growing up to do. And college basketball will most likely find a new No. 1.

DC Dems Want To Legislate Away The Constitution

EDITORIAL:

Upset that the Supreme Court would dare put the First Amendment ahead of their agenda, Washington democrats are considering legislation to curb what they believe will be runaway corruption in the wake of the recent court decision allowing corporate contributions to political candidates.

Of course we have all become so brainwashed by modern political strategy that we now react like Pavlov's dogs to the "issue de jour" being fed to us by the sleight of hand masters in Congress and their barkers in the press.

What we REALLY need to do is re-focus our study on the principles and character of those men and women who seek public office and reawaken in each other our uniquely American instinct for seeking truth, fending off the BS, salesmanship and hype.  Only a gullible public will allow itself to become victims of overreaching corporate spending on political races.

It is our responsibility to see through the vanity and self interest behind any financial support and to reject those who seek public office with even the slightest inclination to put private interests ahead of the public good.

Of course Congressional Dems don't have a clue.  Their response is always "more legislation".  They, and we, would be well advised to heed the admonition of James Madison, the father of our Constitution, who said this:

"Is there no virtue among us?  If there be not, we are in a wretched situation.  No theoretical checks, no form of government, can render us secure.  To suppose that any form of government will secure liberty or happiness without any virtue in the people is a chimerical idea."

If there is a risk that corporate spending might corrupt government, then no law can protect us.  Only the virtue of we the people, seeking to elect only virtuous public servants can save us.

How To At Least SOUND Smarter Than A Sixth Grader: Teleprompter

Barack Obama brought his teleprompter with him when he came to speak to a 6th grade class in Falls Church Virginia last week.

Seriously. 

It should now be clear, he is an actor, reciting lines written by someone else and probably empty headed enough that those who write for him were afraid that without the teleprompters he would not look as smart as a 6th grader.

Glenn Beck Impaled For Criticizing Scott Brown

Glenn Beck has two personalities.  First is his most important and most readily admitted, he is a rodeo clown.  Second, he is considered by many as a reliable sentry at the gates of freedom.  Uh, I think sentry duty is diminished by his clowning around.

After Scott Brown's victory Beck became very critical of that moment in Brown's acceptance speech when he announced on national television that his two daughters were "available".  He also teed off on Brown for his Cosmo spread.  But then Beck went on to joke that Brown needed to be watched carefully, put in a chastity belt and that his term in office could end up with a "dead intern".

Mark Levin took issue with Beck.  So did a bunch of conservative pundits and bloggers.  And while Beck has often admitted to being a recovering alcoholic he has opened himself up to criticism for not giving Brown a break for his mistakes.

Some think Beck harbors delusions of becoming a presidential candidate and that his criticism of Brown is born out of jealousy.  More likely than not Beck has made more money than he could ever have dreamed of making, has watched his popularity skyrocket and is stumbling down the same path as many broadcasters before him to a place where one little slip of the tongue will result in banishment, depression, apology and rebirth albeit in a much smaller universe.

Beck needs to keep his addictive personality in check.  He can't afford to become intoxicated with his own success.

Martha Coakley is running for the United States Senate in Massachusetts.  She seeks the seat previously held by Ted Kennedy.  During a debate with the republican candidate, Scott Brown, she was asked about the war in Afghanistan. She was asked how we can succeed there.  Her response?  She expressed doubt that we can succeed, adding that the Taliban and the terrorists are gone.

IGNORANT.  I rest my case:

Heck, she can't even spell Massachusetts.

First There Was "Oprah" Now There Is "Sarah": Palin To Join Fox News

Sarah Palin has signed to become a regular contributor to Fox.

Former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has signed on as a contributor to the Fox News Channel.

The network confirmed that Ms. Palin would appear on the network’s programming on a regular basis as part of a multiyear deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The deal was formally announced on Monday afternoon. Robert Barnett, Ms. Palin’s lawyer, did not respond to a call for comment. “I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at Fox News. It’s wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news,” Ms. Palin said in a statement. [NY Times]

Mrs. Palin, a word of advice.  Choose your path early.  If you want to become a TV star, great, but that will kill any chances you might entertain of a political career for a very long time.  Just look at how goofy Mike Huckabee looks now.  Think about the way in which the networks (yes Fox too) will consume your real personality and exploit only those parts which are sensational.  Remember every word you speak now will be recorded.  Your most outrageous moments, as fleeting and insignificant as you thought they were at the time you lived them, will become non-stop commercials to get people watching.

Choose your path carefully, M'am.
