If you see commercials this Christmas season urging you to spend money, odds are they will feature ditsy young people ogling over new smart phones, cool clothes or other similarly frivolous things. Why do I call them frivolous? Because to millions of older Americans trying to live on less than $1000 per month, food, heat and rent are far more important.
And if you listen very carefully, there is a whisper of news catching on as an inescapable truth among the under 40 crowd. Our nation's reckless spending has saddled our next generations with crushing debt. In fact, because we are so out of balance in our national budget they might even have to pay back those student loans. And according the the most reliable news sources, MTV and David Letterman, the only reason they can't get a cushy six figure job is because the republicans ruined the economy. And now our country is spending way too much money on doctors and nursing homes for old people who don't do anything except pee on themselves and waste away on the very money that could be used to make the lives of young people easier.
How can we ever get out of this crisis, they are wondering? Well, of course, the Obama administration has the answer.
The Government Accountability Office warned in a report Monday that if cuts are not made to mandatory spending — including Social Security and Medicare — there will be a fundamental gap between spending and revenue as more baby boomers retire.
“Significant actions to change the long-term fiscal path must be taken,” the GAO warned.
“[S]pending for the major health and retirement programs will increase in coming decades, putting greater pressure on the rest of the federal budget,” the GAO study pointed out, attributing this trend to an aging population. [Daily Caller]
You REALLY still don't think this subtle shift in thinking is dangerous? Think again.
You will recall that I was warning people, including my friends at the Kenton County Republican Women's Club, about this very thing way back almost a year ago.
It's not just a budget issue, it's an attempt to nudge the mindset of a nation away from our founding principles where we recognized at the very outset that first among the gifts we receive from God is the right to life.
Once life is devalued, we have lost everything.
Hello! Is anybody listening?
