With a bunch of mushers holed up in Cripple, four time Iditarod Champion Jeff King is back on the trail and in the lead. It is very hard to get an update at this time beyond what the GPS on each musher reports, but it looked like Dallas Seavey who had the lead at Cripple may be taking a rest. Seavey won the gold nuggets for being first to that checkpoint.
It appears that Jeff King is on the trail eventhough at this time of the night the sun is certainly down. King is no stranger to running at night as anyone who has read his book "Cold Hands, Warm Heart" will have learned.
With the half way point behind them, the mushers now face the most brutal part of the race on the Northern route headed for Nome.
