Barack Obama intentionally designed part of his campaign for the presidency in such a way as to draw parallels with Abraham Lincoln. He launched from Illinois, he gave a speech on the steps of the Lincoln memorial and he often drew upon the ideal of racial healing as the continuation of Lincoln's legacy.
Now it seems that the White House is as open to random visitors as it was during Honest Abes stay there. First there was the very disturbing story of the party crashers who passed through security like wind through a screen door and now it turns out that a hapless couple who missed their public White House tour by a day got ushered in to a breakfast with the president.
It wasn't a state dinner, and they didn't crash it on purpose.Still, a Georgia couple who showed up at the White House a day early for a tour somehow wound up at an invitation-only breakfast with President Barack Obama and the first lady. It left the White House once again explaining how people who were not on an event guest list wound up being ushered into the presidential mansion anyway. [Huffington Post]
I'm not so sure channeling Lincoln is a good long range plan, but then again I'm sure the Georgia couple enjoyed the ease of accessibility.
