Former Governor and chairman of the Democratic National Committee Doctor Howard Dean says the Senate version of the health care bill isn't worth supporting and has urged liberals to kill it.
In an interview with Vermont Public Radio Dean lamented that the bill does not go far enough to warrant his support.
"This is essentially the collapse of health care reform in the United States Senate. And, honestly, the best thing to do right now is kill the Senate bill and go back to the House and start the reconciliation process, where you only need 51 votes and it would be a much simpler bill."
For completely different reasons Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell agrees.
As Obama and Senate Democrats met at the White House complex, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he doesn't know what kinds of deals "may be struck behind closed doors."
"What we know for sure is that this bill includes a half-trillion dollars in Medicare cuts, $400 billion in new taxes and higher insurance premiums for everyone else," McConnell said. [USA Today]
