EDITORIAL:
Politicians love to talk about creating jobs. But the fact is the government cannot create any valuable jobs. The government is a consumer, not a producer.
Rand Paul has issued his position on jobs by telling the Democrats that they are the problem, not the solution.
It’s common sense. Government spending comes from taxing and borrowing, not some kind of bureaucratic wealth creation. Americans want government to improve the environment for job creation by ending the ridiculous practice of picking economic winners and losers based on politics.
Rand Paul supports getting politicians as far away from micro-managing the economy as possible to allow free market creativity and competition to create jobs without political interference. [RandPaul2020.com]
Okay, getting government out of the way is a start, but I have a better plan. Forget the government, let's do this ourselves.
It will be painful, but my plan will result in a far shorter duration of pain than staying on the same course we are on today. And the best part is, I can sum up my entire plan in two words: BUY AMERICAN.
Yes goods produced in America by American workers can cost a bit more, but the money from those products goes to feed American families, gets spent in American stores and in turn stays in circulation. The income and the sales are sources of revenue. In the end, with the right Congress, that extra cost in goods may result in a corresponding savings in taxes so that the net cost is not significantly higher.
In addition, as demand for American goods increases, manufacturers may need to add shifts to keep up with sales, giving more people jobs and putting more money in circulation, which increases the sales at stores which also employ Americans and creates competition which then brings prices back down.
If we encourage "Right To Work" laws to keep greedy unions from siphoning off dues to feed their political ambitions and driving wages up so high that factories close, our plan to "Buy American" will mean plenty of jobs and competition for the best workers means higher wages.
If we "Buy American" we deprive foreign nations of precious dollars which means they must trade in a different currency, which pushes the value of the dollar up. This means those things we must import (oil for the time being) can be purchased for less with the more valuable dollar.
This Christmas and for the next few years, I encourage you to look carefully at the things you buy to make sure they are made in America, from American products by American workers.
Forget the government, let's fix this thing ourselves.

If we want enough people to buy American in mass enough to do any good, we need to create our own work and figure out how to make products as efficiently and as cheaply as they can in other parts of the world.
That takes a lot of hard work and ingenuity.
Those are things Americans used to have in abundance. I believe we still have them, but unfortunately government regulations almost double the cost of production in this country, and taxes almost double it again.
It'll be much easier to convince people to buy American when costs are cut in half or more by getting the government off our backs.
Really, what we NEED to be doing, is making stuff that foreigners need from us and sell it it to them. But we do need free trade for that.
Raising protectionist tariffs is no way to prosperity. I realize that's not what your advocating. You're advocating people do it voluntarily. But the reality is, most people if they followed that advise would just impoverish themselves at this point given our lack of productive capacity in this country.
