Good for him. In fact, I suggested that he take this action in a blog post just yesterday. Now others are reporting that Limbaugh has said he is seriously considering this action.
In fact he said that any one who is being smeared by the claim that he/she is a racist sue as well:
Looks like somebody's gonna get a pucker factor real soon. Good for you Rush.

Unlike the above poster, I think Rush should sue and might very well win.
Truth might be an absolute defense to a defamation lawsuit, but we know that the fabricated quotes are not true.
The claim that malice can't be shown because the real motive was just to scuttle a bid that made the other people bidding look bad is an excellent example of circular reasoning.
Just what did Rush say that was bad and that would compromise the image of his bidding partners? Nothing, apparently. If they really wanted to get rid of him, they should have cited his legal problems vis a vis prescription medication, not non-existent racist statements that he supposedly made.
If Rush has a bad image because of his alleged racism that might endanger a bid, guess where that bad image came from?
It came from the deliberate smear campaign that the liberals and leftists have been carrying out against him for the last twenty years. A campaign that can easily be documented. So many people have been caught with their pants down here that it's almost comical.
Furthermore, the "image" problem is a red-herring because there are other NFL owners who have said much more controversial and offensive things than Rush ever said.
It's time for the lying liberal media to learn the consequences of fabrication and character assassination and pay up.
You would think that they would have learned from Dan Rather's career-ending forged documents intended to discredit President Bush and throw the election to Kerry, but no.
It seems that many spankings are going to have to be given, many tears shed, before these arrogant people learn their lesson.

Rush Limbaugh's chances of prevailing on a slander suit aqre pretty dim. First, because rush is a public figure, to win he has to prove that slanderous statements were [ublished with actual malice -- a usually insurmountably high standard, and unlikely to be proved where, as here, the motives were more likely to just have been to rid the bidders' group of a member whose presence would have scuttled their bid.
Second, truth is an absolute defense to defamation.
Third, if Rush sues, he'll have to submit to deposition; i.e., he'll be sworn in and be required to testify under oath for what I believe would be the first time in his life. I believe that this dismaying inevitability would be a decisive factor in his not suing.

I hope Rush does sue and I hope he asks for nillions of dollars and I hope he gets his money, he deserves millions for the opportunity he missed. People have said outrageous thing about Rush because they read it on wiki. Many people actually believe the crap they read on wiki but that not absolve them of their guilt. The people promoting the remarks that Rush never made should have to pay up and I think it will b e one of the largest settlements ever awarded by a jury in the US.

About time turning the flames of financial personal depletion against the people making an industry out of extortion and racial armageddon. Take them to the cleaners so they think twice before smearing people not agreeing with their polits including Chris Matthews.
