Now that the second recording of Daniel Mongiardo has surfaced in which he not only wishes ill for Governor Beshear but also calls him an SOB, questions regarding the source of these recordings have been swirling.
Both Jack Conway and Rand Paul have publicly stated that they know nothing about the recordings and first heard of them when they went public. I have very good reason to believe both of them on this point.
Sources also tell me that Trey Grayson's campaign does not have anyone following the Mongiardo campaign around with recording equipment. (Such persons have become commonplace in politics) Grayson's campaign is therefore ruled out as the source.
These realities coupled with the fact that whoever is recording Mongiardo seems to be someone who was in close proximity to him at the time he was making what most would agree are "not for primetime" statements, strongly suggests that the person making the recording was a "trusted" insider. Thus we have opportunity.
Given that Mongiardo has been accused in the past of not paying people who work on his campaigns what he owes them, we have motive.
Coupling motive, opportunity and ruling out other suspects, compels one logical conclusion: the source for the tapes of Mongiardo's self destructive revelations must be someone within his own campaign.
That, my friends, is a very bad sign.
Mongiardo is done for and quite frankly, I suspect there will be more to come if he doesn't get out soon.
