Checkpoint Charlie was the name given by western allies to the most well know Berlin Wall crossing between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War. In principle, the story below has undertones of just such government control.
According to an article in TimesUnion.com in one community in New York police and school officials have banned kids from riding bicycles to school.
Some parents have begun a program called "Walking School Bus" where kids get exercise walking to and from school in the company of adults. Some parents are angry that their kids are not allowed to ride bikes, claiming that the activity is good for their health, good for the environment and will make them better students.
Despite reports that no accidents involving bicycles along the routes to school have been reported in over three years, the police have actually stopped a mom and her son as they rode to school. Checkpoint Charlie?
I guess in order to get people used to government control over their lives, you can never start too early.
